The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a case against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the U.S.-based general counsel of the banned Khalistani organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for allegedly offering a ₹11 crore reward to "Sikh soldiers" to prevent Prime Minister Narendra Modi from hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day. The incident occurred during a "Meet the Press" event at the Lahore Press Club in Pakistan on August 10, 2025, where Pannun rejected India's sovereignty over Punjab and promoted Khalistan. The NIA's FIR charges Pannun with promoting Khalistan, spreading disaffection among Sikhs against India, and conspiring to disrupt a national event. In a related development, Inderjit Singh Gosal, a close associate and bodyguard of Pannun, was arrested in Ottawa, Canada, on multiple firearms-related charges. Gosal has been a significant figure in SFJ’s Canadian operations, especially after the 2023 killing of pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. His arrest follows a high-level security meeting between India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie G. Drouin, aimed at improving bilateral cooperation and easing tensions stemming from Canada’s accusations about India’s role in Nijjar’s assassination. #GurpatwantSinghPannun #SikhsForJustice #Khalistan #IndependenceDayThreat #NIA #NationalSecurity #Terrorism #CanadaArrest #SFJ #newsone
