The couple was arrested by the Rajasthan Police in December last year and sent to Jodhpur Central Jail. Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Shwetambari Bhatt. On Thursday, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi set aside the Rajasthan High Court’s order denying bail and granted them regular bail. The court said the dispute appeared to arise mainly from a commercial transaction and suggested that the parties try to resolve the matter through mediation. It directed them to appear before the Supreme Court Mediation Centre to explore a possible settlement of their payment dispute. “It seems to us that dispute essentially pertains to a commercial transaction, though the ingredients of committing offence of cheating, etc, have been expressly mentioned in the FIR. Be that as it may, it may be appropriate for the parties to resolve the disputes through mediation. Supreme Court grants interim bail to Vikram Bhatt and wife in Rs. 30 crores fraud case The Supreme Court of India on Friday granted interim bail to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt in connection with a Rs. 30 crores cheating case lodged in Rajasthan. A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi passed the order after the couple approached the apex court challenging the Rajasthan High Court decision that had earlier declined them bail. The matter pertains to allegations that funds collected for film production were allegedly diverted. The complaint was filed by Dr Ajay Murdia, associated with the Indira Group of Companies, which operates the fertility chain Indira IVF as well as Indira Entertainment LLP. Reports indicate that Bhatt and his wife were taken into custody in December 2025 and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. On January 31, the Jodhpur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court rejected their bail application, following which they moved the Supreme Court seeking relief. As per Bar and Bench, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the couple, submitted, “He cannot put the director, his wife, everybody in jail. . . Parag Chadha, the casting director of the film, has publicly accused Bhatt of not clearing his professional fees. Following Chadha’s statement, several actors and crew members associated with the film have also come forward with similar claims of unpaid dues. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Parag said that 100 per cent of his fees remain unpaid despite repeated follow-ups over the years. “100% of my fees is pending,” he said, adding that he had refrained from speaking out earlier due to concerns about his livelihood and future work prospects.
