Father Demands Capital Punishment for NEET Paper Leak Linked to Daughter's Suicide Akanksha Chaturvedi, an 18-year-old aspiring doctor, died by suicide at her Nagpur residence on May 20 after the NEET-UG paper leak controversy left her in despair. Her father, Krishna Kumar, has demanded capital punishment for those responsible, stating, “Hang the people behind my daughter’s death. If you can’t hang them, return my daughter.” Kumar, who described his anguish as “unbearable,” recounted seeing his daughter in her final moments and expressed hope that her death would serve as a warning to prevent similar tragedies. The family, who had returned to Nagpur after cremating Akanksha at their native place in Mauganj district, Madhya Pradesh, emphasized the systemic failures and exam-related stress that contributed to her decision. Kumar, a small farmer and caterer in Nagpur, revealed that the family had taken a Rs3 lakh bank loan and borrowed from relatives, accumulating nearly Rs15 lakh in debt. Their financial struggles, compounded by the hope that Akanksha’s medical career would alleviate their hardships, added to her emotional burden. Akanksha had moved to Nagpur for NEET coaching and appeared for the exam on May 3, confident she would score over 650 marks. However, the cancellation of the exam following allegations of a paper leak and the announcement of a re-examination pushed her into despair. In her suicide note, she wrote, “Sorry Mummy-Papa… I performed well in my first NEET examination, but there is no guarantee I will be able to do it again. I no longer have the courage to take the re-examination. I have already damaged a lot.” Political figures and leaders responded to the tragedy, with Nagpur City Congress president Prafulla Gudadhe visiting the family and expressing solidarity.#nagpur #neet_ug #akanksha_chaturvedi #krishna_kumar #mauganj_district

'Sorry mummy, papa, I have ruined everything': NEET aspirant's note found days after suicide in Nagpur An 18-year-old medical entrance exam aspirant, Akanksha Chaturvedi, died by suicide in Nagpur, Maharashtra, days after her family discovered a handwritten note expressing remorse for her decision. The note, which she wrote before her death, apologized to her parents for failing to secure admission to a medical college and admitted her anxiety about retaking the NEET-UG examination following its cancellation. Akanksha, a student from Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district, had appeared for the NEET-UG exam on May 3, expecting a high score and a place in a medical college. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled the exam on May 12 after allegations of a paper leak, prompting the scheduling of a retest for June 21. Nearly 23 lakh candidates had registered for the original exam. Akanksha, who was preparing for the test at a coaching institute in Nagpur, was staying with her family at the time. The incident occurred on May 20 when she was found hanging in her room at the family residence. Police confirmed she had no prior history of mental health issues and that no suicide note was initially recovered. Days later, her family discovered the handwritten note while organizing her study materials. The note, submitted to the Ambazari police on June 1, read: "Mummy, Papa... you had trust in me that I would study and become a doctor. But I do not have the courage to appear for a retest. In the first test, I was about to score good marks. But there is no guarantee that I will score good marks again. Sorry, Mummy, Papa, I have ruined everything for both of you." Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Nityanand Jha stated the note is being investigated as part of the case.#nagpur #nta #neet_ug #akanksha_chaturvedi #krishna_kumar_chaturvedi
