Father Demands Capital Punishment for NEET Paper Leak Linked to Daughter's Suicide Akanksha Chaturvedi, an 18-year-old aspiring doctor, died by suicide at her Nagpur residence on May 20 after the NEET-UG paper leak controversy left her in despair. Her father, Krishna Kumar, has demanded capital punishment for those responsible, stating, “Hang the people behind my daughter’s death. If you can’t hang them, return my daughter.” Kumar, who described his anguish as “unbearable,” recounted seeing his daughter in her final moments and expressed hope that her death would serve as a warning to prevent similar tragedies. The family, who had returned to Nagpur after cremating Akanksha at their native place in Mauganj district, Madhya Pradesh, emphasized the systemic failures and exam-related stress that contributed to her decision. Kumar, a small farmer and caterer in Nagpur, revealed that the family had taken a Rs3 lakh bank loan and borrowed from relatives, accumulating nearly Rs15 lakh in debt. Their financial struggles, compounded by the hope that Akanksha’s medical career would alleviate their hardships, added to her emotional burden. Akanksha had moved to Nagpur for NEET coaching and appeared for the exam on May 3, confident she would score over 650 marks. However, the cancellation of the exam following allegations of a paper leak and the announcement of a re-examination pushed her into despair. In her suicide note, she wrote, “Sorry Mummy-Papa… I performed well in my first NEET examination, but there is no guarantee I will be able to do it again. I no longer have the courage to take the re-examination.
