Major Crackdown on Sand Smugglers in Amravati, 10 Arrested Amravati rural police conducted a significant operation to dismantle illegal sand smuggling activities, resulting in the seizure of vehicles, sand, and substantial illicit earnings. The crackdown, which targeted sand being smuggled into Maharashtra from Madhya Pradesh, led to the arrest of 10 individuals and the confiscation of three trucks, one tractor, and materials valued at Rs 84 lakh. Cases were registered at Tiwasa and Shendurjana Ghat police stations, marking a decisive step against illegal mining and transportation in the region. The operation was initiated following special instructions issued by Amravati rural SP Niketan Kadam, who had directed efforts to curb illegal businesses in the district. Two teams from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) were deployed to set up traps in Tiwasa and Shendurjana Ghat areas on Tuesday night. In Tiwasa, a Tata truck carrying five brass of sand was intercepted, leading to the arrest of Fulchand Harsule (35, Achalpur) and Nilesh Gudhe (Amravati). A tractor with one brass of sand was also seized in the same area, resulting in the detention of Abhishek Musale (22, Ashti) and Ajay Lokhande (56, Ashti). In Shendurjana Ghat, a tipper transporting six brass of sand was intercepted, and Arvind Ambadkar (47, Benoda), Krush Badode (21, Warud), and Kishor Belsare (Warud) were taken into custody.
