CCTV Scans and RTO Data Aid Police in Solving Robbery-Homicide Case The Nagpur police crime branch successfully solved a complex robbery-homicide case after tracing the autorickshaw used in the crime through CCTV footage and Regional Transport Office (RTO) data. The incident, which resulted in the death of a Chhattisgarh man, was resolved within nine days, with three accused arrested and the vehicle recovered. The victim, Hemlal Ghritlahare, 32, from Balod district in Chhattisgarh, was found injured under a flyover near Telephone Exchange Chowk on Gangabai Ghat Road on June 28 around 1:30 am. Two passers-by rushed him to Lakadganj police station, where he later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. Initially registered as an unknown death, the case was reclassified after police suspected foul play. Police Inspector Mukund Kawade of Lakadganj Police Station used the national intelligence database NATGRID to identify the deceased. A dedicated team led by Inspector Atul Mohankar then conducted a technical investigation, analyzing CCTV footage from multiple locations, including Old Bhandara Road, Telephone Exchange Chowk, Jagnari Chowk, and other areas in East Nagpur. The breakthrough came when investigators focused on an autorickshaw with registration number MH-49-AR-4486. By cross-referencing CCTV visuals and RTO data, the team traced the vehicle and its occupants. The autorickshaw owner provided additional details, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Asif Sajid Sheikh, 33, the driver, along with Praful Chaudhary, 32, from Jamgaon in Chandrapur district, and Asif alias Monu, 28. Flyover Work, Unpaved Stretches Choke East Nagpur; Daily Gridlock Hits Key Junctions Nagpur: Narrowed roads, incomplete concretisation work, and non-functional traffic signals amid ongoing flyover construction have turned several key stretches in East Nagpur into daily choke points. Commuters endure long snarls during peak hours, with the worst-affected areas including Jagannath Chowk, Gangabai Ghat Chowk, and connecting stretches from Central Avenue, Nandanvan, Reshimbagh Square, Zenda Chowk, and KDK College. At multiple locations, one side of the road has been concretised while the other remains uneven, unpaved, and strewn with loose gravel and potholes. Barricades around construction zones have further reduced road width, particularly at Gangabai Ghat Chowk, forcing vehicles into narrow lanes and triggering frequent bottlenecks. The absence of functional traffic signals at the junction has compounded the problem, with vehicles converging simultaneously from several directions. Minor accidents and traffic jams have become common. Commuters reported that the situation worsens during evening rush hours, with traffic building up near Jagannath Chowk and adjoining junctions. Long queues of two-wheelers, autorickshaws, buses, and private vehicles are routinely seen inching through the congested stretches. Amit Meshram, a daily commuter from Nandanvan, described the difficulty: “Every evening, it takes nearly 20 minutes to cross Jagannath Chowk.
