Two passers-by rushed him to Lakadganj police station, where he later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. Initially registered as an unknown death, the case was reclassified after police suspected foul play. Police Inspector Mukund Kawade of Lakadganj Police Station used the national intelligence database NATGRID to identify the deceased. A dedicated team led by Inspector Atul Mohankar then conducted a technical investigation, analyzing CCTV footage from multiple locations, including Old Bhandara Road, Telephone Exchange Chowk, Jagnari Chowk, and other areas in East Nagpur. The breakthrough came when investigators focused on an autorickshaw with registration number MH-49-AR-4486. By cross-referencing CCTV visuals and RTO data, the team traced the vehicle and its occupants. The autorickshaw owner provided additional details, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Asif Sajid Sheikh, 33, the driver, along with Praful Chaudhary, 32, from Jamgaon in Chandrapur district, and Asif alias Monu, 28.
