Alert Cops Ignore Jurisdictional Boundaries to Avert Woman-Daughter Suicide Nagpur: Two constables from Bajaj Nagar police station, Narendra Kewate and Pankaj Rathod, defied jurisdictional restrictions to intervene in a suicide attempt by a woman and her daughter at Ambazari Lake. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 10:50 a.m., when the officers received an alert about two unknown women attempting to take their own lives at the lake. Despite being posted under Bajaj Nagar police jurisdiction, the beat marshals crossed into Ambazari police territory to address the crisis. Upon arrival, the officers found a 40-year-old mother and her 22-year-old daughter standing on the lake bank, visibly distressed. The women, residents of Rameshwari area, were grappling with a family conflict rooted in financial and educational disputes. The mother had invested Rs5 lakh in a nursing course for her daughter, but the younger woman had opted for a career in a beauty parlour, leading to a rift. The constables engaged the women in a calm conversation, listened to their grievances, and persuaded them to abandon their suicidal plans. The officers then contacted the women’s relatives and arranged for their immediate support. Since the incident fell under Ambazari police jurisdiction, Kewate and Rathod informed the local station and handed over the mother-daughter duo for further legal proceedings and counseling. Bajaj Nagar senior police inspector Chetan Chauhan emphasized that the constables had prevented a potential tragedy, stating, “Our constables convinced them not to take the drastic step.” Chauhan also highlighted the dedication of Nagpur police personnel, noting that their actions prioritized human lives over bureaucratic boundaries.#nagpur #ambazari_lake #bajaj_nagar #rameshwari #chauhan
