Escape Gates at Ambazari Lake to Be Ready by June End Nagpur: In an effort to prevent Ambazari Lake from overflowing and submerging surrounding areas during the monsoon season, the irrigation department has initiated the installation of escape gates at the lake. Officials confirmed that the project is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized by the end of June. The initiative aims to mitigate the risk of flooding, which has historically posed a threat to residential neighborhoods in the city. Heavy rainfall in the lake’s catchment area has previously led to overflow incidents, with the most notable event occurring on September 23, 2023, when significant portions of Nagpur were inundated. Residents still recall the devastation caused by that flood, prompting authorities to prioritize measures to prevent a recurrence. The escape gates are part of a multi-phase project designed to enhance the lake’s capacity to manage excess water safely. The project was divided into three phases. The first phase, which involved constructing a spillway near the Vivekananda statue, was completed at a cost of 4.5 crore rupees. A retaining wall was also built on the temple side to reinforce the structure. The second phase, which included strengthening works, was initiated in February 2024 with a work order valued at 4.6 crore rupees. Each escape gate will measure approximately two meters in height and four meters in width, allowing controlled water release before the lake reaches critical overflow levels. Officials emphasized that the mechanism will enable the gradual discharge of water, reducing the likelihood of sudden flooding in adjacent areas. The gates are expected to play a crucial role in managing water levels during the monsoon season, which typically brings heavy rainfall to the region.#nagpur #ambazari_lake #irrigation_department #vivekananda_statue #temple_side

Hi-Tech Machines Deployed to Remove Water Hyacinth from Ambazari Lake Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has launched an aggressive cleanup drive to combat the invasive spread of water hyacinth in Ambazari Lake, deploying advanced harvester machines to restore the city’s iconic water body ahead of the monsoon season. The initiative, which began last week, involves the use of high-capacity machinery to efficiently remove the aquatic weed, which has long plagued the lake’s ecosystem. The civic body has mobilized a fleet of specialized equipment, including five Pokland machines, two JCBs, several tippers, and two advanced harvesters. Officials emphasized that these machines are designed to handle both submerged and floating vegetation, offering an environmentally friendly solution to manage invasive aquatic plants. Each harvester is capable of removing approximately 4.5 to 5 tonnes of water hyacinth per operation and can clear one to two acres of the lake daily. The project is funded under the environmental protection and pollution control components of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana and the District Mineral Foundation, Nagpur. This funding underscores the government’s commitment to addressing ecological challenges through technological intervention. The machines’ deployment is expected to significantly accelerate the cleanup process, reducing the manual labor required and minimizing disruption to the lake’s surroundings. During a recent inspection, Mayor Neeta Thakre, along with standing committee chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare and municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar, reviewed the progress of the operation. Corporator Yogesh Pachpor and NMC superintending engineer Shweta Banerjee were also present.#nagpur_municipal_corporation #neeta_thakre #ambazari_lake #pradhan_mantri_khanij_kshetra_kalyan_yojana #district_mineral_foundation

Alert Cops Ignore Jurisdictional Boundaries to Avert Woman-Daughter Suicide Nagpur: Two constables from Bajaj Nagar police station, Narendra Kewate and Pankaj Rathod, defied jurisdictional restrictions to intervene in a suicide attempt by a woman and her daughter at Ambazari Lake. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 10:50 a.m., when the officers received an alert about two unknown women attempting to take their own lives at the lake. Despite being posted under Bajaj Nagar police jurisdiction, the beat marshals crossed into Ambazari police territory to address the crisis. Upon arrival, the officers found a 40-year-old mother and her 22-year-old daughter standing on the lake bank, visibly distressed. The women, residents of Rameshwari area, were grappling with a family conflict rooted in financial and educational disputes. The mother had invested Rs5 lakh in a nursing course for her daughter, but the younger woman had opted for a career in a beauty parlour, leading to a rift. The constables engaged the women in a calm conversation, listened to their grievances, and persuaded them to abandon their suicidal plans. The officers then contacted the women’s relatives and arranged for their immediate support. Since the incident fell under Ambazari police jurisdiction, Kewate and Rathod informed the local station and handed over the mother-daughter duo for further legal proceedings and counseling. Bajaj Nagar senior police inspector Chetan Chauhan emphasized that the constables had prevented a potential tragedy, stating, “Our constables convinced them not to take the drastic step.” Chauhan also highlighted the dedication of Nagpur police personnel, noting that their actions prioritized human lives over bureaucratic boundaries.#nagpur #ambazari_lake #bajaj_nagar #rameshwari #chauhan

Dormant Krazy Castle set to rise as big attraction, MahaMetro plans theme park, commercial hub Nagpur: After years of uncertainty following the dismantling of Krazy Castle Aqua Park at Ambazari for the Metro Rail corridor, MahaMetro has announced plans to develop an international-standard amusement and commercial complex at the site. The project, which will span over 5.3 acres near Ambazari Lake, is being floated through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. The development will be divided into two main components: a 5-acre theme park and a smaller commercial parcel of approximately 1,752 square meters. The commercial area is expected to house revenue-generating facilities, while the theme park will be adjacent to Dharampeth College Metro Station, offering direct connectivity via the Metro network. What distinguishes the project is its Global Village-style concept, which is already partially visible at the site. MahaMetro previously installed facades of iconic global landmarks, including replicas inspired by the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Disney Castle, and structures resembling Dubai’s skyline. These existing structures will be handed over to the selected developer, who will be responsible for upgrading and integrating them into a fully functional theme park. The developer will also be tasked with creating additional attractions and ensuring the site meets international standards for entertainment and commercial activity. The project is being developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, which aims to leverage private sector expertise and investment to bring the site to life. MahaMetro’s EOI process is designed to attract developers capable of executing such a large-scale, multi-faceted project.#nagpur #mahaMetro #krazy_castle #ambazari_lake #dharampeth_college
