50-plus Nagpur Woman Completes Two Ironman Triathlons in Less Than Seven Months Deepa Garg, a 50-something woman from Nagpur, has made history by becoming likely the first Indian woman to finish two full Ironman 140.6 triathlons within less than seven months. Her remarkable achievement includes conquering two vastly different climates—near-freezing seawater in California and scorching heat in Vietnam—demonstrating extraordinary endurance and adaptability. The Nagpur-based athlete, married to Vinayak Garg, a senior railway official, completed the Ironman California event on October 19 last year and the Ironman Vietnam race in Da Nang on May 10 this year. Despite facing cramps, injuries, and challenging weather conditions, Deepa improved her performance in Vietnam, finishing the race in 15 hours and 30 minutes. This marked a significant improvement over her California finish, which took more than 16 hours. The Ironman 140.6 is renowned as one of the world’s toughest endurance events, requiring participants to swim 3.8 km, cycle 180 km, and run a full marathon of 42.2 km within strict time limits. In California, Deepa battled near-freezing seawater and harsh cold, enduring physical and mental strain to cross the finish line. Just six months later, she faced the opposite extreme in Vietnam, where intense heat, high humidity, and strong crosswinds made the race exceptionally demanding. During the Vietnam race, Deepa encountered cramps almost immediately after starting the cycling leg, which persisted through the marathon. She described the event as a "true test of physical and mental strength," emphasizing the challenges posed by the weather and conditions.#nagpur #vinayak_garg #deepa_garg #ironman_california #ironman_vietnam
