This measure aims to curb the misuse of fake documents, which have been exploited to obtain multiple SIMs under false identities. In cases where a customer accidentally activates more than nine SIMs, the extra number will be suspended within 24 hours. The suspension will remain in effect until the user reduces their active SIM count to nine. During this period, no new SIMs will be issued to the customer. The DoT has also urged users to verify their active SIMs to avoid disruptions. Many individuals may have unused SIMs registered under their name, while scammers could exploit fake documents to create fraudulent accounts.
