The policy mandates that customers exceeding the limit of nine active SIM cards will no longer be able to obtain new connections. If a user surpasses this threshold, the telecom provider will notify them that they have reached the maximum allowed number of SIMs and will not be issued additional cards. The DoT has emphasized the use of the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) to ensure compliance with the new rules. Starting August 23rd, all individuals with nine active SIM cards will have their photographs and records uploaded to the DIP portal. This will enable telecom companies to quickly identify users who have exceeded the limit and prevent them from receiving new SIMs. Companies are required to integrate their systems with the DIP portal by November 30th to process data efficiently. This measure aims to curb the misuse of fake documents, which have been exploited to obtain multiple SIMs under false identities. In cases where a customer accidentally activates more than nine SIMs, the extra number will be suspended within 24 hours. The suspension will remain in effect until the user reduces their active SIM count to nine. During this period, no new SIMs will be issued to the customer. The DoT has also urged users to verify their active SIMs to avoid disruptions. Many individuals may have unused SIMs registered under their name, while scammers could exploit fake documents to create fraudulent accounts.
