Delhi Ration Card Policy Update: Income Limit Raised to 2.5 Lakh, Cabinet Approval Expected The Delhi government has announced significant changes to its ration card policy, expanding eligibility for families earning up to ₹2.5 lakh annually. The new rules, which are set to be approved by the Delhi cabinet, aim to ensure fair distribution of subsidized food grains while addressing issues of fraud and inefficiency in the existing system. Under the revised guidelines, citizens with an annual income of ₹2.5 lakh will now be eligible to apply for a ration card, a substantial increase from the previous limit of ₹1 lakh. The state government has initiated a digital process for issuing new cards, requiring applicants to submit their applications online. This shift to a digitized system is expected to streamline operations and reduce bureaucratic delays. The move comes after a comprehensive review of the existing ration card system, which revealed widespread discrepancies. Officials revealed that over 7.71 lakh ration cards were found to be invalid, with reasons ranging from incorrect income data to cases of deceased individuals or people from different regions using the same cards. For instance, 144,000 cards were issued to individuals whose income exceeded the eligibility criteria, while 35,800 people had not used their cards for over a year. Additionally, 29,580 cases involved deceased beneficiaries, and 23,394 instances were identified where individuals from different areas were using the same cards. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that these findings led to the formation of a committee at the district level, chaired by district magistrates, to address grievances and ensure transparency.#delhi #rekhagupta #delhi_cabinet #ration_card_policy #digital_portal
