In Varanasi, the Ganges River has swelled to dangerous levels, submerging parts of the city and forcing authorities to deploy boats to aid pilgrims visiting the ghats. The historic Khushrabagh fort in Prayagraj saw its ancient wall collapse due to the relentless rain, with officials confirming the structure was built during the Mughal era as a stable for horses. Meanwhile, the city’s drainage systems have failed, leading to widespread flooding in residential areas. Kanpur and its suburbs faced similar challenges, with hospitals struggling to manage the influx of patients. In Kanpur Dehat, the government-run medical college reported that water had entered the premises, disrupting medical services. Patients and their families were forced to relocate to higher ground, while staff worked to maintain critical operations. A tree fell on a DCMM (District Collector’s Mobile Machine) vehicle in Sohbatiyabad, injuring the driver, adding to the chaos. Farrukhabad saw the Ganges rise to record levels, with the Khathoum Shyam temple submerged under several feet of water. Authorities arranged boats to transport devotees to the site, as foot traffic became impossible.
