Mathura gets financial aid from LMEL Mathura, a 72-year-old woman who became a landmark case in India’s legal history due to her rape by a police officer and the subsequent reforms in custodial sexual assault laws, has received financial assistance from Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL). The company, which operates in Gadchiroli district where Mathura resides, has disbursed Rs 5 lakh through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to support her. The aid aims to help her construct a safe house and address her ongoing needs, according to a press release by LMEL. Mathura’s case, which gained national attention in 2012, led to significant changes in how custodial sexual abuse is addressed in Indian law. Her ordeal, which involved prolonged police custody and systemic failures, prompted reforms including stricter protocols for handling such cases and the establishment of special courts. Despite these legal advancements, Mathura has continued to face challenges, including poverty and limited access to basic necessities. LMEL chairman Mukesh Gupta emphasized that her struggles highlight the gap between legal progress and societal compassion, stating that her plight remains a painful reminder of the need for continued support. LMEL’s managing director, B Prabhakaran, expressed deep concern over the lack of adequate compassion for Mathura’s situation. He noted that her significance as a symbol of justice and dignity should not be overshadowed by the difficulties she still faces. The company’s CSR efforts are part of broader initiatives to address social inequities, with the aid to Mathura being a direct response to her ongoing hardships.#gadchiroli_district #mathura #pradhan_mantri_awas_yojana #lloyds_metals_and_energy_limited #mukesh_gupta

Gadchiroli District Launches Crackdown on Cross-Border Fertilizer Diversion, Threatens Criminal Action The Gadchiroli district administration has intensified efforts to combat the illegal diversion of subsidized fertilizers to neighboring states, warning of strict legal consequences for agro dealers involved in the practice. The move comes amid growing concerns that fertilizers intended for local farmers are being siphoned off and sold at inflated prices in Telangana and Chhattisgarh, disrupting supply chains and inflating costs for rural communities. Authorities have directed officials to initiate criminal proceedings against Krishi Seva Kendras (agro service centers) suspected of facilitating the diversion. The District Agriculture Superintendent and the Agriculture Development Officer issued these directives, emphasizing the need to ensure that farmers within Gadchiroli receive their entitled supplies without interruption. To enforce this, special checkpoints have been established in border talukas such as Dhanora, Sironcha, Aheri, Bhamragad, and Desaiganj. These checkpoints will inspect vehicles transporting fertilizers to prevent unauthorized movement across state lines. In parallel, the agriculture department has launched a comprehensive audit of transactions recorded on point-of-sale (PoS) machines at all fertilizer outlets. Officials are verifying whether sales are being made to genuine farmers within the district and in appropriate quantities, aiming to detect irregularities and curb fraudulent entries. This measure is designed to identify and address discrepancies in the distribution system, ensuring that subsidies reach their intended beneficiaries. The administration has made it clear that penalties will extend beyond administrative actions such as license cancellations.#gadchiroli_district #krishi_seva_kendras #dhanora #sironcha #agriculture_development_officer

In an exclusive interview with The Times of India, Fadnavis emphasized the government's shift from conflict resolution to transformative development, positioning Gadchiroli as a major investment destination driven by mining and infrastructure. The declaration came amid a broader national effort to dismantle Maoist networks, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Fadnavis highlighted the success of this initiative, noting that while many Maoists were rehabilitated, those who continued violent activities were neutralized. "This milestone in Maharashtra reflects the collaborative efforts of the central and state governments," he stated. 9 Ch’garh Maoists cross into Maha, surrender in Gadchiroli Nagpur: Nine senior Maoist guerrillas crossed the Indravati river from Chhattisgarh into Maharashtra and surrendered to Gadchiroli police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday. The move marked a significant blow to insurgent activity in the Dandakaranya region, particularly in Gadchiroli district and surrounding border areas. The surrender occurred on the final day of the March 31 deadline set by Union home minister Amit Shah under the national policy. The cadres had traveled from the Bijapur region of Chhattisgarh through the forests of Indravati National Park, entering Maharashtra in a coordinated operation before laying down their arms. The development was attributed to sustained anti-Maoist operations and rehabilitation packages offered by the central and Maharashtra governments. Among the surrendered cadres were three area committee-level guerrillas and six other members, all classified as hardcore insurgents with a combined bounty of Rs30 lakh declared by Maharashtra authorities. Two women, Shanti Wadde and Sukki Kunjam, also surrendered. Wadde, carrying a Rs6 lakh reward, served as an area committee member in the Indravati local organisational squad of the Maoists. Both women surrendered with weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and 30 live cartridges. Acting on information provided by the surrendered cadres, joint teams of Gadchiroli police and CRPF recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 57 live rounds, three walkie-talkies, four batteries, and 20 pen drives from Kummar forest near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border under Kawande police station limits.#maharashtra_government #gadchiroli_district #central_reserve_police_force #indravati_national_park #chhattisgarh_government

Gadchiroli Village Implements Liquor Ban with Penalties, Ration Card Cancellations A village in Gadchiroli district, Kotgal, has enacted a strict ban on liquor, accompanied by penalties for violators, including the cancellation of ration cards and disqualification from government welfare schemes. The decision was inspired by similar anti-liquor measures in Bamanpalli, where villagers imposed fines on liquor traders to address domestic violence. The funds generated from penalties were allocated for community development projects. The Gram Sabha in Kotgal recently passed a resolution aimed at transforming the village into a model liquor-free community. Under the new rules, anyone found selling or distributing liquor will face penalties, lose their ration card, and be barred from participating in government welfare programs. Additionally, criminal cases will be registered against offenders through a dispute resolution committee and police involvement. Residents who provide credible information about illegal liquor sellers or brewers will receive a cash reward of Rs3,000, with the identities of informants kept confidential. Women from the village played a leading role in the initiative, highlighting the impact of alcohol abuse on families. They emphasized that alcohol addiction among men has led to frequent domestic disputes, abuse, and health issues, straining family incomes and well-being. The Gram Sabha meeting, attended by panchayat members, NGO representatives, police officials, and villagers, underscored the community’s commitment to addressing the problem. Kotgal, with a population of around 3,300 across 820 households, has faced significant challenges due to alcohol-related issues. The village is now being recognized as an example of grassroots action against liquor abuse in the district.#gadchiroli_district #bamanpalli #kotgal_village #gram_sabha #panchayat

Govt Approves Land for Intelligence Office in Gadchiroli The Maharashtra government has approved the allocation of 500 square meters of land in Sonapur village, located in Gadchiroli district, for the construction of an office building for the Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO). This decision, formalized through a government resolution issued by the revenue department on Monday, follows a proposal submitted by the Nagpur divisional commissioner and Gadchiroli district collector. The sanctioned land is part of a 16.62-hectare area classified under government ownership in Sonapur. Officials stated that the 500sqm plot will be transferred after charging occupancy prices based on current ready reckoner rates. The approved land is intended for the exclusive use of constructing the ACIO office, with strict stipulations that any change in land use must be approved by state authorities. This move is part of broader efforts to strengthen administrative and security infrastructure in Gadchiroli, a district noted for its strategic geographical location and security significance. Enhancing intelligence infrastructure is expected to improve coordination among agencies and bolster law enforcement operations in the region. Officials highlighted that such targeted infrastructure development aligns with national and state priorities aimed at improving governance and internal security mechanisms. Gadchiroli, which requires closer administrative monitoring, is seen as a critical area for reinforcing institutional presence. The initiative underscores the government’s focus on addressing security challenges and ensuring effective governance in regions with complex socio-political dynamics.#maharashtra_government #gadchiroli_district #sonapur_village #nagpur_divisional_commissioner #gadchiroli_district_collector

MSRTC Bus Enters Remote Gadchiroli Hamlet for First Time Since Independence A state-run bus service made its debut in the isolated hamlet of Tumarkothi, located in Gadchiroli district, marking a historic milestone 79 years after India’s independence. This tribal village, once a Maoist stronghold, has remained inaccessible to modern transportation and communication for decades. The arrival of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus on Tuesday symbolizes a major breakthrough in connectivity for the region, which was previously cut off by guerrilla activity and lack of infrastructure. Tumarkothi, situated deep within the forests approximately 30 kilometers from Bhamragad and nearly 100 kilometers from Aheri, was once a "forbidden zone" where Maoist insurgents operated with impunity. The area witnessed frequent attacks, including grenade explosions, ambushes, and IED threats. For years, residents—predominantly tribal communities—were forced to endure arduous foot journeys to reach nearby tehsil or district headquarters for essential services. The absence of reliable roads, mobile signals, and public transport left the hamlet isolated and vulnerable. The new bus service, launched in collaboration with Gadchiroli Police, is part of a broader initiative to improve connectivity in the district. Recent years have seen significant developmental efforts, including the installation of 559 mobile phone towers, construction of 424 kilometers of roads, and 65 bridges. These projects have gradually transformed the region, enabling access to education, healthcare, and markets for previously cut-off communities. The MSRTC bus on the Tumarkothi-Kothi-Bhamragad-Aheri route was welcomed with traditional celebrations by villagers.#msrtc #gadchiroli_district #tumarkothi #gadchiroli_police #maharashtra_state_road_transport_corporation
