‘Honour Killing’: Father, brother held for murdering newly-wed woman Buldhana police solved a brutal murder case within 12 days of launching an investigation, arresting the father and brother of a newlywed woman accused of killing her and attempting to destroy evidence by burning and mutilating her body. The accused allegedly transported the body over 100 kilometers on a motorcycle from Khadki village in Burhanpur district to Rajura farmland in Buldhana district, where it was partially burned and dismembered. The crime came to light on April 26 when a headless, partially burnt body of an unidentified woman was found near a riverbank in Rajura farmland under Jalgaon Jamod police limits. A human skull was also discovered nearby, causing alarm in the area. Jalgaon Jamod police registered an offense based on a complaint from a local resident. Superintendent of Police Nilesh Tambe directed the Local Crime Branch (LCB) to take over the investigation due to the crime’s brutality and sensitivity. LCB teams under Inspector Sunil Ambolkar conducted inquiries across Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, and Burhanpur districts in Madhya Pradesh. They analyzed missing women records and relied on technical data and informants. A critical breakthrough occurred on May 9 when the LCB team linked the case to a missing complaint registered on May 1 at Khaknar police station in Burhanpur. The complainant, Bapuram Kalemkar (55), reported his daughter’s disappearance since April 25. The deceased was identified as Shivani Bapuram Kalemkar, a resident of Khadki village in Burhanpur district.
