Four months ago, when Arora returned to Kanpur, she was shocked to learn her locker had been opened. Bank staff initially denied her access, but after persistent requests and record checks, her locker was finally confirmed. On July 27, when the locker was opened in the presence of staff, all 50 lakh rupees worth of gold and silver jewelry were found missing. Arora accused the bank of a conspiracy, alleging the staff had stolen the items. The Kanpur police, under the direction of the commissioner, registered an FIR against the branch manager and other employees. The police are now investigating the bank’s records, documents, and the role of the staff in the incident. A central question remains: how was the locker accessed without the customer’s key? Arora claims she had not opened the locker since 2011 and had no prior knowledge of its contents.
