Andreeva comes of age to win French Open and end Chwalinska fairytale Mirra Andreeva, a 19-year-old Russian player, secured her first Grand Slam title by defeating Maja Chwalinska in the French Open final with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. The win marked the end of Chwalinska’s historic run, as she became the second qualifier in history to reach a Slam final, following Emma Raducanu’s groundbreaking achievement in 2021. Andreeva’s triumph also solidified her place in tennis history as the youngest French Open champion since Monica Seles’ 1992 run and the third-youngest Grand Slam winner of the 21st century, trailing only Maria Sharapova and Raducanu. The match, played under challenging conditions, tested Andreeva’s mental resilience from the outset. Chwalinska, ranked 114th in the world, employed a variety of tactics to disrupt Andreeva’s rhythm, including loopy topspin, low slices, drop shots, and aggressive angles. The windy, slow-moving conditions at Court Philippe-Chatrier exacerbated the difficulties, causing Andreeva to struggle with her timing and resurface old habits. Early in the first set, she became passive, relying on moonballs to avoid unforced errors, which left her vulnerable to Chwalinska’s defensive prowess. Andreeva’s breakthrough came after a critical moment in the first set. Down 2-3, she steadied herself by securing her first service hold of the match, which boosted her confidence. She then shifted her approach, forcing herself inside the baseline and taking the ball early off both wings. This tactical adjustment allowed her to control the points, gradually erasing Chwalinska’s early lead. By the time she reached 2-3 in the first set, Andreeva dominated the next nine games, closing out the match with composure.#roger_federer #maja_chwalinska #mirra_andreeva #conchita_martinez #french_open

Mirra Andreeva Wins French Open, Becomes Youngest Clay-Court Grand Slam Champion Mirra Andreeva, the 19-year-old Russian tennis star, captured her first Grand Slam title at the French Open after defeating qualifier Maja Chwalinska in a thrilling final on Saturday. The victory marked a historic moment, as Andreeva became the youngest woman to win a clay-court Grand Slam since Monica Seles claimed her third consecutive French Open title in 1992 at age 18. Her triumph came after a grueling two-week tournament that tested her mental resilience, physical endurance, and emotional strength. Andreeva’s journey to the final was defined by her relentless determination and the challenges she faced as a teenage phenom. Born in Siberia and raised in Sochi before moving to France to pursue her tennis career, she burst onto the scene at 15 during the 2023 Madrid Open, where she became the third-youngest player to win a main draw match at a WTA 1000 tournament. Her rise to prominence was swift, but the path to the French Open final was fraught with obstacles. The Russian’s mental fortitude was a key factor in her success. Her coach, Conchita Martinez, a former Wimbledon champion, described Andreeva’s attitude as “difficult” at times, noting that the teenager often resisted guidance. “When she works hard and when she listens and she does everything, she has no limits,” Martinez said. Andreeva acknowledged her own shortcomings, admitting during the trophy ceremony that she could be “a tough cookie” and that it was “pretty hard to put up with me.” Despite these challenges, her ability to stay focused and push through self-doubt proved critical. The final against Chwalinska was a battle of wills.#maja_chwalinska #iga_swiatek #mirra_andreeva #conchita_martinez #french_open

French Open Cinderella Runs Face Wimbledon Wild Card Hurdle Maja Chwalińska, the Polish player who reached the French Open semifinals after qualifying, may not be able to compete in Wimbledon’s main draw unless she receives a wild card. Her run from the qualifying rounds to the semifinals highlights the challenges lower-ranked players face due to the tight schedule between the two Grand Slam tournaments. Last year, French hometown favorite Lois Boisson made a similar Cinderella run as a wild card, but she was excluded from Wimbledon’s main draw despite her ranking rising to No. 65 after the French Open. The timing of the tournaments creates a unique obstacle. Wimbledon’s main draw entry list is finalized in mid-May, before the French Open begins, leaving players like Boisson and Chwalińska without a guaranteed spot. Boisson, ranked No. 361 at the start of the 2024 French Open, advanced to the semifinals but was not among the top 104 players eligible for Wimbledon’s main draw. The tournament prioritizes players with strong past performances or British connections, and Boisson’s lack of prior Wimbledon success left her without a wildcard. A similar fate may await Chwalińska, whose live ranking surged to No. 30 after her French Open run. This would have secured her a seed at Wimbledon had she achieved the ranking earlier, but the tournament’s entry list is locked before the French Open concludes. Chwalińska is currently listed as the 14th alternate for Wimbledon, meaning she can only bypass qualifiers if 14 players ranked ahead of her withdraw before the main draw is finalized. The short turnaround between the French Open and Wimbledon adds to the challenge. Wimbledon’s main draw begins just weeks after the French Open, leaving little time for preparation.#maja_chwalinska #wta #french_open #wimbledon #lois_boisson

Andy Roddick Raises Wimbledon Concern for Maja Chwalinska After French Open Run: 'Ain't Getting One Over Serena' Andy Roddick, a former U.S. Open champion, expressed doubts about Maja Chwalinska’s chances of securing a Wimbledon wildcard, citing the challenges posed by Serena Williams’ anticipated return to professional tennis. On the latest episode of the Served Podcast, Roddick noted that Chwalinska’s path to the Wimbledon main draw is complicated by the likelihood of Serena Williams claiming a wildcard slot. “She isn’t getting one over Serena if she decides to play,” Roddick said, highlighting the competitive landscape shaped by Williams’ comeback. Chwalinska, who will qualify for Wimbledon’s main draw next year, faces a critical hurdle this season: securing a wildcard for the tournament. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) allocates wildcards based on factors like prestige, Championship history, and the potential to boost local interest. Roddick pointed out that Serena Williams’ return to doubles at the HSBC Championships in London—her first tournament since the 2022 U.S. Open—would likely consume one of these slots. He cited Petra Kvitova’s example, who received a wildcard as a past champion, to illustrate the prioritization of established names. Roddick’s concerns were amplified by the case of Lois Boisson, a French Open semifinalist in 2023 who failed to secure a Wimbledon wildcard despite her breakthrough performance. Boisson, ranked No. 361 at the start of the year, surged to No. 65 after her run at Roland Garros but missed out on a wildcard due to the AELTC’s strict entry cutoff date. The deadline for main draw entry and wildcard allocation falls six weeks before Wimbledon, and Boisson’s ranking increase came too late to qualify.#andy_roddick #maja_chwalinska #serena_williams #all_england_lawn_tennis_club #lois_boisson

Maja Chwalinska's Unlikely Journey to Roland Garros Final Maja Chwalinska, the World No. 114 player, has stunned the tennis world with her improbable run to the Roland Garros final. Over 18 days, the qualifier has defeated nine opponents to become the first in the Open Era to reach the French Open final. Her achievement is compared to Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open run, marking a rare and remarkable feat in the sport. Chwalinska, who has never held a top-100 ranking, has maintained a consistent performance throughout the tournament. She has dropped just one set in her nine matches, losing only to Maria Sakkari in the third round. Her latest victory over 25th-seeded Diana Shnaider—secured with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 scoreline—highlighted her tactical adaptability and physical resilience. Against Shnaider, Chwalinska hit 32 winners while committing just 17 unforced errors, showcasing her ability to neutralize powerful opponents through variety and precision. Despite her success, Chwalinska has remained grounded, stating she has no superstitions. “I’m not a very superstitious person,” she said after the semifinal win. “My coaches are, though. They eat pizza every day—like, every day—and we’re here three weeks. They’re going to gain so much weight, you guys. It’s gonna be terrible. But if they want, I can’t say no. Maybe it helps. I don’t know.” Her coaches’ pizza habit has become a talking point, though Chwalinska herself has not adopted the practice. Ahead of her final against eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva, she plans to stick to her routine: sleeping, drinking tea, and watching tennis. “I’m going to repeat myself,” she said. “I’m going to sleep, and I’m going to drink my tea. I’m going to watch something good, maybe some tennis a bit, because I’m a tennis freak. And that’s it.#emma_raducanu #maja_chwalinska #mirra_andreeva #roland_garros #diana_shnaider

Sabalenka Advances to French Open Quarterfinals with Dominant Win Over Osaka PARIS -- Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka secured her place in the French Open quarterfinals with a decisive 7-5, 6-3 victory over Naomi Osaka on Monday, marking a significant step toward her quest for the first clay-court Grand Slam title. The match, the first women’s night match at Roland Garros in three years, highlighted the growing interest in expanding the tournament’s evening schedule. Sabalenka’s win not only improved her career record against Osaka to 3-1 but also brought her closer to ending a year-long wait since her 2024 final loss to Coco Gauff. The match unfolded under unique circumstances, with Osaka making a striking fashion statement by wearing a golden bomber jacket over her gold sequin playing dress, which featured a tiered train with puffs of tulle. Sabalenka, in contrast, opted for more traditional tennis attire, donning a slightly sheer black flared dress with a red underlayer and diamond necklaces. The contrast in outfits underscored the personalities of the two players, with Sabalenka’s aggressive baseline play proving decisive. From the outset, Sabalenka dominated the rally, leveraging her powerful forehand to control the points. Her breakthrough came on the first match point, where she hit a massive forehand return winner that Osaka barely managed to reach. The 1 hour, 27-minute match showcased Sabalenka’s ability to adapt to the unique challenges of a night match, including the cooler temperatures and the heightened scrutiny of the Roland Garros crowd. The decision to stage the women’s night match sparked debate among tennis fans and officials, with critics arguing that the format could attract broader audiences.#aryna_sabalenka #maja_chwalinska #roland_garros #naomi_osaka #diana_shnaider

Aryna Sabalenka ousts Naomi Osaka to reach French Open quarters again Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1, advanced to her fourth consecutive French Open quarterfinal with a decisive 7-5, 6-3 victory over No. 16 seed Naomi Osaka in the first women’s night-session match at Roland Garros in three years. The Belarusian player, who reached the 2025 French Open final but remains without a Grand Slam title, dominated the encounter with 12 aces compared to Osaka’s two, while winning 72.7% of her service points, 90.9% of her net points, and breaking Osaka four times in five opportunities. Sabalenka’s performance was marked by her ability to maintain pressure on Osaka, a player known for her aggressive style. After being broken for the only time in the match at 2-0 in the first set, Sabalenka broke back at 5-5 to seize the set. The second set saw her take control early, holding serve through the first six games before breaking Osaka’s final two service games to seal the win. Osaka, who had previously reached the fourth round of the French Open in 2024, failed to advance past the quarterfinals for the first time in her career. The loss also extended her losing streak against Sabalenka to three matches this season, as the two had not faced since 2018. For Sabalenka, the victory sets up a semifinal clash against Russia’s Diana Shnaider, who defeated the final American in the women’s draw, Madison Keys, in a three-set thriller (6-3, 3-6, 6-0). Shnaider, ranked No. 25, becomes the first player in her career to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal. The 22-year-old had previously reached the fourth round of the 2024 U.S. Open but had struggled to break through to the quarterfinals. This win ended an eight-match losing streak against top-20 opponents and marked a significant milestone in her career.#aryna_sabalenka #maja_chwalinska #madison_keys #naomi_osaka #diana_shnaider

French Open 2026: Shnaider Advances to Quarters, Chwalinska Continues Remarkable Run Russian tennis player Diana Shnaider made history by reaching the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open 2026. The 25th-seeded player secured her place in the last eight with a three-set victory over American Madison Keys, overcoming the challenge of a second-set deficit to claim a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win on Court Suzanne Lenglen. The match, which lasted just 26 minutes in the final set, set up a potential quarterfinal clash against either world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka or two-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. Shnaider expressed her elation, stating, “It’s definitely a huge moment for me, I’m super happy. I’m super proud of myself for being in the quarter-finals for the first time.” Keys, the 2025 Australian Open champion, had previously reached the semifinals at Roland Garros but was eliminated in the fourth round this year. Her exit leaves Sabalenka and Osaka as the sole Grand Slam champions remaining in the women’s singles draw. Shnaider’s achievement marks a significant milestone, as her previous best performance at a major tournament was a fourth-round appearance at the 2024 US Open. The Russian’s triumph also highlights her resilience, as she dropped her level in the second set but rebounded decisively in the final set. Meanwhile, Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska continued her extraordinary run at the French Open, advancing to the quarterfinals with a straight-sets victory over French hope Diane Parry. The world No. 114 player, who had only won one match in her previous two Grand Slam appearances, dominated Parry on Court Philippe Chatrier with a 6-3, 6-2 scoreline.#aryna_sabalenka #maja_chwalinska #madison_keys #naomi_osaka #diana_shnaider

Maja Chwalinska Reaches Roland Garros Quarterfinals for First Time PARIS — Maja Chwalinska, the World No. 114 player, has reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros for the first time in her career, marking her first Grand Slam fourth-round appearance. The 24-year-old Polish left-hander qualified for the main draw and has dominated her path to the second week of the tournament, defeating top-seeded opponents and advancing past the third round. Her victories over Zheng Qinwen, No. 23 seed Elise Mertens, and Maria Sakkari, including a three-set win over Sakkari on Saturday, have propelled her to the quarterfinals. “It’s very new for me, the stage,” Chwalinska said after her match, reflecting on her unexpected rise. “I’ve never really been in the third round in a Grand Slam, and I’m in the fourth round right now. Coming from quallies, I obviously didn’t well expect to be in this position, so it’s a lot to take in. I’m just very proud of myself with the effort I put in.” Her achievement is historic, as she joins compatriot Iga Swiatek as the first two Polish players to reach the fourth round at Roland Garros in the same year. This marks only the third time in Grand Slam history that two players from the same country have reached the fourth round in a single tournament, with previous instances including Marta Domachowska and Agnieszka Radwanska at the 2008 Australian Open, and Magda Linette and Swiatek at the 2023 Australian Open. If Chwalinska and Swiatek both advance past their fourth-round matches, it would be the first time two Polish players reach the quarterfinals at the same Slam in a given year. Chwalinska’s success is all the more remarkable given her limited experience on the WTA Tour.#maja_chwalinska #iga_swiatek #poland #wta_tour #roland_garros

French Open: Kalinskaya Survives Epic Potapova Battle to Reach Maiden QF Anna Kalinskaya secured her first-ever French Open quarter-final berth after a grueling three-set match against Anastasia Potapova on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. The Russian, seeded 22nd, overcame a dramatic battle to win 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7), marking a pivotal moment in her career. The match, which lasted two hours and 49 minutes, showcased relentless momentum shifts and intense psychological warfare, with both players pushing each other to the brink. Kalinskaya’s victory extended her head-to-head record against Potapova to 3-0 and propelled her into her fifth clay-court quarter-final, a milestone she had not previously achieved. The 22-year-old, who had only won one main-draw match at Roland Garros prior to this year, now faces either French hope Diane Parry or Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in the next round. Her path to the quarter-finals was particularly notable given the challenges posed by Potapova, the 28th-seeded Austrian, who had previously defeated her in their 2024 Australian Open clash. The match began with Kalinskaya seizing control of the first set, coming from a 4-1 deficit to take a 6-4 lead. However, Potapova responded with renewed intensity, dominating the second set to claim a 6-2 victory and force a deciding third. The final set was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Potapova seizing a 4-1 lead in the tie-break before Kalinskaya staged a remarkable comeback. The Russian saved two match points at 5-4 and 6-5, eventually prevailing in the tie-break to seal the win. Kalinskaya’s composure under pressure was a key factor in her triumph. After the match, she admitted to being overwhelmed by the intensity of the contest, stating, “I’m shocked. WTA French Open Second-Round Betting Insights: Key Matches and Strategic Tips Julia Grabher faces Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the French Open, with both players presenting unique challenges for bettors. Grabher, who advanced to the second round after defeating Rebecca Sramkova in the first round, has a mixed recent record. Her last five matches include a 3-2 record, but her performance in lower-tier events raises questions about her current form. She failed to progress beyond the qualifying rounds at the Rome Open, which suggests she may not yet be in peak condition. Anisimova, on the other hand, is returning from a prolonged injury absence, having missed nearly the entire clay season. Her recent return to competition saw her win her opening match in straight sets, but her form remains uncertain. Analysts caution that bettors should approach this match with caution, as Anisimova’s physical readiness and overall performance are still in question. Despite this, Anisimova is positioned as the more reliable option, with a 2-0 victory priced at 1.60 odds at Coral. Maja Chwalinska’s clash against Elise Mertens highlights a matchup between an in-form player and a top-25 opponent. Chwalinska has been dominant in recent weeks, securing four consecutive wins and eight of her last 10 matches. Her first-round upset victory over Qinwen Zheng, a former top-10 player with a strong clay court record, further underscores her current momentum. Mertens, while a respected player, has faced challenges in recent matches, losing to Mirra Andreeva and Karolina Pliskova. However, her recent straight-set win over Tatjana Maria in the first round demonstrates her ability to perform under pressure. The betting strategy here leans toward a parlay involving Mertens’ moneyline, paired with a single bet on Chwalinska.#maja_chwalinska #elise_mertens #amanda_anisimova #julia_grabher #wta_french_open

Maja Chwalińska udzieliła rywalce lekcji tenisa. To było idealne zwycięstwo Polska tenisistka Maja Chwalińska zakończyła swoje kwalifikacje w turnieju WTA 125 w Antalyi w Tureckim triumфе.

Maja Chwalińska awansowała do 1/8 finału WTA 125 w Antalyi, pokonując 17-letnią turkinię Ada Kumru w dwu setach z wynikami 6:1 i 6:3. Mecz trwał 62 minuty, a polska tenisistka zaczęła go z dominacją, zakończyła pierwszy set po 29 minutach. W drugiej partii Kumru zdobyła zaledwie dziewięć punktów, a Chwalińska zagrała w stylu charakterystycznym dla siebie – często wykorzystując skróty i zmuszając rywalkę do biegania. Kumru, która w poprzednich turniejach rangi 125 odpadała w pierwszych rundach, zaczęła mecz z trudem. W czwartym gemie miała szansę na równowagę, ale return Chwalińskiej wyrzucił ją w korytarz deblowy. W kolejnych akcjach polska zawodniczka zmusiła turkinię do błędów, a w końcówce meczu wygrała 27 z 39 punktów. Chwalińska, znana z technicznego wyszkolenia i umiejętności gry skrótami, pokazała w spotkaniu swoją wytrzymałość i zdolność do zmiany tempa. W historii kariery Chwalińska wygrała kilka meczów z wynikami 6:0 i 6:0, w tym w WTA 125 w Quito, gdzie pokonała Tanię Varelę Alvarado.#wta_125 #antalya #maja_chwalinska #tamar_zidansek #ada_kumru

Polish tennis players break losing streaks in Challenger tournament Katarzyna Kawa ended a dismal run of eight consecutive losses by advancing to the second round of the Challenger tournament in Antalya. The Polish player defeated Mayar Sherif, the fifth-seeded Egyptian competitor, in a three-set match that lasted nearly two hours. Kawa won the first and third sets, securing her first singles victory in a tournament since October 29. This win follows her earlier success in the Polish team's Billie Jean King Cup campaign and mixed doubles at the United Cup. She will now face Ipek Oz or Katarina Zawacka in the next round. Maja Chwalińska also progressed smoothly, overcoming Adelina Lachinova of Latvia in a two-set match lasting 2 hours and 27 minutes. The Polish player, seeded seventh, maintained composure despite playing on a clay court with a "wild card" entry. Chwalińska will next face Despina Papamichail in the second round. The tournament results for the singles draw include Kawa’s victory over Sherif (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) and Chwalińska’s win against Lachinova (6-1, 6-3).
