NMC Transport Panel Meeting Postponed for Lack of Quorum The scheduled meeting of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) transport committee was postponed on Tuesday due to a lack of quorum, as none of the 12-member panel attended. The decision to defer the meeting came despite a packed agenda that included proposals for a new religious bus circuit, wage revisions for contractual staff, and housing allowances for conductors. Committee chairperson Mangala Khekre, a BJP corporator, cited her ill health as the reason for the postponement, with the session rescheduled for September 1. The transport committee, led by Khekre, consists of seven BJP members, two Congress corporators, one Shiv Sena (UBT) member, and one AIMIM corporator. However, the absence of all members, including Khekre herself, left the panel unable to proceed. Sources within the BJP claimed that the members had staged an undeclared boycott, citing resentment over Khekre’s unilateral actions. They alleged that she conducted inspections without consulting the panel, leading to tensions within the group. The postponed meeting was intended to address several key proposals. One major item was the launch of the “Dev Darshan Yatra Bus Circuit,” a plan to allow citizens to hire NMC buses for eight-hour religious tours covering 15 destinations, including Ganesh Tekdi, Dragon Palace, Koradi, Deekshabhoomi, Adasa, and Dhapewada. The proposed fares ranged from Rs5,000 to Rs7,000, depending on bus capacity.
