Pachgaon Police Rescue 3-Yr-Old Within An Hour A 3-year-old girl was rescued by Pachgaon police in Nagpur Rural district within an hour of being kidnapped, according to authorities. The incident occurred on Saturday, with the police station in Pachgaon acting swiftly to apprehend the accused and reunite the child with her family. The child was taken by 23-year-old Mukesh Madavi, a resident of Mandla district in Madhya Pradesh, who was in an inebriated state at the time. Madavi reportedly approached a village resident’s home in Champa village, where he asked for food. His suspicious behavior, including the presence of the child, prompted locals to alert the police. Police Inspector Ravindra Mankar directed his team to detain and interrogate Madavi, who confessed to kidnapping the girl from the Kharbi Chowk area of Nagpur city. Senior Inspector Pramod Pore of the Wathoda police station confirmed that Madavi and the child’s parents are from the same village and knew each other. Pore stated that Madavi had taken the child without informing the parents and that the police had successfully reunited the girl with her family. The Pachgaon police station coordinated with their counterparts at the Wathoda police station in Nagpur city limits to verify the details of the kidnapping. After confirming the case, the accused and the rescued girl were handed over to the Wathoda police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the kidnapping law and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 8-Year Low, A New High: Nagpur Rural Posts 30% Drop In Road Accident Deaths Nagpur rural district recorded 85 fatal accidents resulting in 91 deaths in the first quarter of 2026, marking the lowest fatality count in the region in eight years. This represents a 30% decline in fatalities compared to the same period in 2025 and a 26% reduction in accidents at 18 identified high-fatality black spots. The district ranked third among Maharashtra districts for the lowest road accident rates, reflecting a consistent downward trend in fatalities from 148 in 2022 to 91 in 2026. Fatal crashes dropped from 132 in 2022 to 85 in 2026, underscoring the effectiveness of targeted interventions. The improvement is attributed to the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) programme, a collaborative initiative between Nagpur rural police and SaveLIFE Foundation. The programme employs data analytics to identify high-risk locations, corridors, and behaviors, followed by interventions under the 4Es framework—Engineering, Enforcement, Education, and Emergency Care. Harssh Poddar, Superintendent of Police for Nagpur Rural, highlighted the programme’s success, emphasizing a scientific, multi-stakeholder approach. “Our data-driven strategy, backed by strict enforcement against speeding and dangerous driving, black spot corrections, vehicle fitness checks, and focused public awareness campaigns, has delivered results for the first time at this scale in the district,” Poddar stated. Poddar, known for pioneering AI applications in policing through the MARVEL unit, stressed the importance of sustained focus on rural highways and state roads.
