PCI, AU Rulings Fuel Push For Carry-On Rule At NU Nagpur: The Pharmacy Council of India’s (PCI) decision to allow BPharm students admitted up to the 2025-26 academic session to continue under the existing syllabus with a “carry-on” provision, along with Amravati University’s (AU) implementation of a smooth progression policy, has intensified demands from backlog students at Nagpur University (NU) for similar academic flexibility. Backlog students at NU have escalated their calls for a “carry-on” policy to ensure seamless academic progression, citing unfair disadvantages compared to peers in other universities. The issue gained traction after the Nationalist Students’ Council (Sharad Pawar) submitted a formal representation to NU Vice Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar, urging the implementation of a carry-on policy for students across all faculties. The council argued that NU students were being placed at a disadvantage relative to counterparts at PCI and AU, where regulatory bodies had already introduced measures to address academic bottlenecks. PCI’s directive, issued in response to the revised BPharm syllabus under the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), permits students admitted up to the 2025-26 academic session to continue under the 2016-17 syllabus. These students are allowed to progress to higher semesters regardless of pending coursework, provided they clear all subjects up to the 8th semester. The council also directed institutions to facilitate attendance requirements to ensure students complete their programs under existing regulations.
