CBSE Eases 3-Language Policy, Exempts Current Class 10 Batch Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced a relaxation of its three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, exempting the current Class 10 batch and sparing Classes 7, 8, and 9 from board examinations in the third language. This one-time adjustment formalized an assurance provided by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan in an interview to The Times of India last week. The policy change, outlined in a June 29 circular, specifies that students in Class 10 during the 2026-27 academic year will continue with the existing two-language system. For Class 9 students in 2026-27, they must study three languages, with at least two being “Bhartiya Bhashas” (Indian languages). The third language will be assessed solely through internal school-based examinations, with no CBSE board examination for this batch when they reach Class 10 in 2027-28. A one-off relief was granted to students currently in Classes 7, 8, and 9 who have already opted for two foreign languages. These students are allowed to continue with their existing language combination and must add one Indian language as the third. The assessment of the third language for these batches will remain school-based, with no board examination. The full three-language mandate with board examinations will apply from Class 6 (2026-27) onwards. When this batch reaches Class 10, they will sit for the board exam in the third language as well. The relaxation followed a May circular mandating the three-language policy for Class 9 starting July 1. A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the circular, prompting the apex court to issue notices to the central government, CBSE, and NCERT.#times_of_india #supreme_court #central_board_of_secondary_education #national_education_policy #dharmendra_pradhan

CBSE Class 10 Second Board Results 2026 Expected Soon The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to release the results for the second board exams of Class 10 students in 2026, marking the first implementation of the board’s two-phase examination system under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The results are anticipated to be announced in mid-to-late June, though the exact date has not been officially confirmed. This system aims to reduce academic stress by allowing students to retake up to three subjects within the same academic year to improve their scores. Approximately 6.7 to 6.8 lakh students participated in the improvement or compartment exams, which were conducted from May 15 to 21, 2026. The new policy enables students to reattempt subjects to enhance their grades without waiting for the next academic cycle, particularly benefiting those in the "compartment" category who previously had to wait an entire year for a reattempt. Science and Mathematics emerged as the most retaken subjects, followed by Social Science, while fewer students opted for subjects like AI, Tourism, Music, or Painting. Around 85,000 students were in the compartment category, while over 5.25 lakh aimed to improve their marks through the second exam. The results will be made available through multiple platforms, including the official CBSE websites (cbse.gov.in, cbseresults.nic.in, cbse.nic.in), DigiLocker, UMANG, and via SMS and IVRS. Students are advised to keep their roll number, school number, admit card ID, and date of birth handy for quick access to their results. Provisional scorecards will be downloadable online immediately after the results are released, while original certificates will be issued later by their respective schools.#central_board_of_secondary_education #cbse #national_education_policy #nepr2020 #compartment_category
Central Board of Secondary Education Introduces Second Board Exam for Class 10 Students The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced plans to implement a second board examination for Class 10 students beginning with the 2026-27 academic session. This initiative aims to provide students with an additional opportunity to improve their scores within the same academic year, reducing the pressure associated with a single exam attempt. Under the revised policy, students will be allowed two examination attempts, with the first scheduled for February and the second to be held later in the year. The policy change is designed to address the challenges students face when performing poorly in their initial exams due to factors such as illness, stress, or unforeseen circumstances. By offering a second chance, the CBSE hopes to mitigate the academic and emotional burden on students while ensuring they have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge. The board emphasized that this reform aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for a more flexible and student-centric education system. For students who fail to meet the passing criteria in both exams, the consequences are clear. According to the proposed guidelines, those who do not clear the second examination will be deemed unsuccessful for the academic year. Such students will need to reappear for the board exams in the subsequent academic cycle. The final result will be determined based on the best performance from the two attempts, ensuring that students are not penalized for a single poor performance. The CBSE has also outlined that the new system will require students to stay updated with the latest rules and regulations.#class_10_students #central_board_of_secondary_education #cbse #national_education_policy #academic_year
Nagpur University Announces Common UG Admission Schedule Today Nagpur: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will announce the common admission schedule for first-year undergraduate courses on Wednesday, providing clarity for students and parents. The delay in releasing the schedule had caused confusion, particularly amid recent changes under the National Education Policy (NEP). With Class 12 results from both the state board (HSC) and CBSE already declared, many students awaited clear timelines for registration, merit lists, document verification, and the start of classes before finalizing college preferences. Vice-Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar confirmed that the circular detailing the admission schedule has been finalized and will be issued on Wednesday. The university officials stated that the admission process will follow a centralized schedule, similar to previous years, to ensure uniformity and streamline admissions across affiliated colleges. The delay in the schedule had disrupted admission planning for students applying to multiple institutions and professional courses. Uncertainty over timelines affected their ability to make informed decisions about college preferences. Kshirsagar emphasized that the centralized approach aims to address inconsistencies and provide a structured process for all affiliated colleges. Separately, major student organizations met Vice-Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar on Tuesday to raise concerns about academic and administrative issues at Nagpur University. Representatives from NSUI, the Nationalist Students’ Congress (Sharad Pawar faction), Yuva Graduate Forum, and the Nagpur University Students’ Organisation participated in the discussion.#manali_kshirsagar #national_education_policy #nsui #rashtrasant_tukadoji_maharaj_nagpur_university #nationalist_students_congress

Nagpur University Revises NEP Course Structure Within a Year of Implementation Nagpur University has revised the course structure introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) for the 2024–25 academic session. Vice-chancellor Manali Kshirsagar confirmed that a circular detailing the changes will be issued on Wednesday. Under the revised framework approved by the Academic Council, students will study three subjects in the first year (Semesters I and II), choose a major and minor in the second year (Semesters III and IV), and continue only with the major from the third year (Semester V onwards). The model is referred to as the "3-2-1 formula." Students will also have the option of pursuing a four-year bachelor's honours degree or a research-oriented degree, which would make them eligible for direct admission to PhD programmes without a master's degree. Under the earlier NEP structure implemented last year, students were required to choose their major subject in the first semester. University officials said many students struggled to make this decision immediately after Class XII, prompting the revision. Other changes include a 60:40 theory-practical evaluation ratio and the introduction of an Indian Knowledge System elective. Officials indicated that such revisions are expected to continue in phases over the coming years, as directed by the state government. They also noted that the earlier structure risked creating staff imbalances across departments. However, the sudden revision has drawn criticism from sections of the academic community. Faculty members argued that at least one batch should have been allowed to complete the existing pattern before introducing further changes.#academic_council #nagpur_university #manali_kshirsagar #national_education_policy #nepr_implementation

CBSE Introduces On-Screen Marking for Class 12 Board Exams Starting 2026 to Enhance Accuracy and Transparency The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the implementation of an on-screen marking (OSM) system for evaluating Class 12 board exam answer sheets beginning with the 2026 academic session. This digital initiative replaces traditional manual grading processes, aiming to improve the accuracy, speed, and transparency of result processing for millions of students. Under the new system, students will continue to write their exams on paper, but their answer books will be scanned and uploaded to a secure digital platform where authorized examiners will mark responses directly on-screen. The shift to digital evaluation is part of CBSE’s broader effort to modernize its assessment framework. Officials emphasized that the OSM system reduces logistical delays associated with transporting physical answer sheets to evaluation centers and minimizes common errors such as miscalculations during manual grading. Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj highlighted that the initiative aligns with the board’s goal of enhancing “efficiency and transparency” in the evaluation process. With nearly 46 lakh students appearing for CBSE exams globally each year, even minor improvements in accuracy and speed could significantly impact result timelines and student outcomes. The implementation of OSM requires schools to upgrade their infrastructure, including ensuring reliable internet connectivity and digital systems, while teachers must undergo training to adapt to the new platform.#central_board_of_secondary_education #national_education_policy #sanyam_bhardwaj #class_12_board_exams #logical_indian

CBSE Schools Await New NCERT Class 9 Books as Academic Session Begins CBSE schools in India are facing uncertainty as the new academic session starts on April 1, with the much-anticipated NCERT Class 9 textbooks still not available. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) confirmed that the revised books, aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, are still in development. Himanshu Gupta, NCERT secretary, stated that the new textbooks for Grade 9 will be made available for the 2026-27 academic session. However, no specific timeline was provided, leaving schools and parents in a dilemma. School principals have expressed frustration over the delay, with one stating, “As usual, late. We are commencing classes on April 1 and we don’t have the books with us.” Another principal criticized the last-minute approach, saying, “These things should be planned a year in advance so that students get new books well before the session begins. If NCERT knew it’s playing it so close to the finish line, they should have postponed it by another year.” The NCERT advisory clarified that draft syllabi for Class 9 have been uploaded to its official website for reference and feedback. It also instructed teachers to ensure students’ prerequisite learning is addressed before starting the new syllabus. The Class 9 books are part of a phased rollout of textbooks following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. NCERT noted that new books for Classes 1 to 8, developed in line with NCF-SE 2023, are already available in print and digital formats. For Classes 10 and 11, the rollout is scheduled for the 2027-28 academic session.#cbse #ncert #himanshu_gupta #national_education_policy #national_curriculum_framework
