The PS5 Digital Edition will now cost £519.99, representing a 21% increase from its previous price, while the PS5 Pro model will be priced at £789.99, a 13% rise. The PlayStation Portal, a peripheral device for the console, will also see a £20 increase, bringing its price to £219.99. The price adjustments apply to all regions, with the PS5 console now costing $649.99 in the U.S. (equivalent to £488) and €649.99 in Europe (approximately £563) starting from 2 April. Gaming industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis explained that the price hikes are driven by broader supply chain challenges, particularly the rising costs of random access memory (RAM) and storage components, which are essential for console manufacturing. These components are in high demand due to the global expansion of data centers that power artificial intelligence systems. Harding-Rolls noted that with no signs of easing prices for these critical parts, Sony’s decision to raise prices is a strategic move to protect its hardware margins.
