Maharashtra Launches First Phase of Kisan Loan Forgiveness Scheme, Benefiting 533 Farmers The Maharashtra government has initiated the first phase of the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Kisan Loan Forgiveness Scheme-2026, a program aimed at alleviating the financial burden on farmers by forgiving portions of their agricultural loans. Under this scheme, 533 farmers across seven districts have been identified as eligible beneficiaries. The process involves Aadhaar-based verification, after which the forgiven loan amounts will be directly credited to their respective loan accounts. Implementation Process The scheme’s first phase focuses on farmers associated with regional cooperative banks. Once the verification process is complete, beneficiaries will receive an SMS confirming their eligibility. Following this, the forgiven loan amounts will be transferred directly to their loan accounts, ensuring a streamlined and transparent process. The government has emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to support rural livelihoods and reduce debt-related stress among farmers. Exclusions and Eligibility Criteria Certain categories of individuals are explicitly excluded from the scheme. These include current and former elected representatives, government and semi-government employees, and officials of local self-governance bodies. Additionally, farmers who have other sources of income beyond agriculture are not eligible. The scheme prioritizes small and marginal farmers who rely heavily on agricultural income. The government has outlined a phased rollout of the scheme. The first phase, targeting farmers linked to regional cooperative banks, is expected to conclude by 31 July 2026. Following this, the second phase will extend the benefits to farmers associated with nationalized banks and other financial institutions.#maharashtra #aadhaar #regional_cooperative_banks
