Solar’s Anti-Drone System Will Be Ready For User Trials By Oct Solar Defence Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has announced that its indigenous counter-drone system, Bhargavastra, is expected to be ready for user trials by October, with the possibility of an earlier launch. The system, described as one of the first of its kind globally, is being developed under a projection sanction order (PSO) issued by the Indian Army. A team from the Army’s Corps of Air Defence recently visited SDAL’s facility in Bazargaon to review the project’s progress. The company emphasized that the Bhargavastra programme has advanced significantly and could meet its trial deadline ahead of schedule. Bhargavastra’s standout feature is its ability to launch a salvo of 64 micro-missiles simultaneously, enabling it to neutralize drone swarms effectively. The system is designed to engage targets at a range of 2.5 km, meeting the Army’s current requirements. However, SDAL is also working on an enhanced version capable of neutralizing threats up to 6 km away, which is expected to be ready within the next few months. Company chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal highlighted that the extended-range variant would expand the system’s operational versatility. The system integrates a radar capable of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) up to 10 km away, along with an electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) surveillance suite and passive radio-frequency sensors. These components work together to provide multi-layered target detection, tracking, and classification, creating a comprehensive air situation picture for operators. Speaking at the Nag Bhushan Puraskar 2025 event in Nagpur, Bhagwat emphasized that only powerful nations could protect the righteous and maintain stability. The ceremony honored Padma Shri recipient Satyanarayan Nuwal and young athlete Daksh Khante, with Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in attendance. Bhagwat argued that a nation’s future would be determined not by economic size but by its defense strength. He praised Nuwal and Khante for their achievements, stressing that their success was rooted in humility and gratitude. “What Nuwal has done, what Khante has done — the glory is theirs,” he said, adding that Nagpur residents felt pride in their accomplishments, believing such achievements could emerge from the region.
