Booking.com Travel Report Highlights Shift in APAC Traveler Behavior Amid Extreme Weather Booking.com’s 11th annual Travel & Sustainability Report reveals significant changes in how travelers in the Asia-Pacific region plan and book trips, driven by concerns over extreme weather, natural disasters, and overcrowding. The report, based on responses from 32,500 travelers across 35 global markets, highlights a growing trend of adapting to climate-related challenges and prioritizing sustainable travel practices. A key finding is that 44% of APAC travelers canceled or changed travel plans in the past 12 months due to extreme weather or natural disasters. This figure underscores the increasing impact of climate events on travel decisions. Additionally, 79% of respondents said they consider extreme weather risk when choosing a destination, while the same percentage reported factoring it into timing decisions. In Asia-Pacific, 74% of travelers actively avoid destinations known for extreme weather, and 68% said such conditions cause stress during the booking process. The report also emphasizes a generational divide in sustainable travel preferences. While 88% of APAC travelers across all ages stated that more sustainable travel is important or very important to them, there are notable differences in future plans. Boomers (48%) are less likely than Gen X (68%), Millennials (76%), or Gen Z (80%) to prioritize sustainability. This suggests a shift toward younger generations adopting more eco-conscious travel habits. Overcrowding is another factor reshaping travel choices. In APAC, 40% of travelers plan to avoid overcrowded tourist destinations, while 28% seek out cooler locations. Among those choosing quieter destinations, 36% aim to reduce their environmental impact by avoiding overtourism.#extreme_weather #booking_com #danielle_dsilva #apac #sustainability_report
