The announcement was made during a press conference held by Sutakar Rao, the head of BSNL’s Chennai operations, who outlined the company’s strategy to enhance connectivity and expand its service offerings. As part of its efforts to attract new customers, BSNL introduced a prepaid service plan priced at just ₹1. This offer, valid until September 12, includes a free SIM card, 24 days of service, unlimited voice calls, 1 GB of data, and 100 SMS per day. The company also announced a one-year plan and a high-speed internet service package, both of which will be available to customers. Additionally, a new mobile application named “BSNL Care” was launched, integrating features such as prepaid recharge, postpaid bill payment, data usage tracking, complaint registration, and detailed service information. BSNL’s infrastructure in Chennai includes 1,902 towers, of which 1,214 have already been upgraded to support 4G services. The remaining towers are scheduled for upgrades within six months, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for existing users. Once the upgrades are complete, the company expects to eliminate service disruptions and transition fully to 5G technology. The rollout of 5G services is expected to significantly improve internet speeds and reliability across Tamil Nadu, positioning BSNL as a key player in the region’s telecommunications landscape. The announcement highlights BSNL’s commitment to modernizing its network and meeting the growing demand for high-speed connectivity.#chennai #tamil_nadu #bsnl #sutakar_rao #bsnl_care

BSNL Bets ₹77,000 Crore on 4G, 5G Expansion to Achieve Profitability by FY29 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced a significant financial commitment of ₹77,000 crore over the next five years to expand its 4G and 5G networks, aiming to achieve profitability by fiscal year 2029. The plan includes the deployment of 2 lakh new 4G sites and the gradual rollout of 5G services in high-traffic areas. This strategic move is intended to ensure coverage across nearly 98% of India, positioning the state-owned telecom operator for long-term financial stability. Despite the ambitious investment, BSNL continues to face financial challenges. The company reported a loss of ₹4,738 crore in fiscal year 2026, with revenue growth remaining sluggish. The mounting losses have prompted calls for stricter cost management and a shift toward revenue-generating services. A parliamentary panel has urged BSNL to prioritize cost control and focus on high-margin offerings such as enterprise services. The panel also recommended pausing large-scale spending until existing partnerships, particularly with Vodafone Idea, are fully operationalized. To conserve cash, BSNL is actively exploring cost-sharing arrangements with Vodafone Idea, including the joint use of towers and fiber infrastructure. These collaborations are expected to reduce capital expenditures and operational costs. However, the Department of Telecommunications has expressed reservations about halting infrastructure upgrades, arguing that such delays could hinder the country’s digital transformation. The government’s stance highlights the tension between fiscal prudence and the need for rapid technological advancement. While BSNL’s expansion plans align with India’s push for widespread connectivity, the company’s financial health remains a critical concern.#parliamentary_panel #india #vodafone_idea #department_of_telecommunications #bsnl

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Urges Income Tax Department to Simplify Services for Citizens Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday called on income tax officials to streamline government services, emphasizing that citizens should not face unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. Speaking after inaugurating the Aaykar Sindhu, a 13-floor, 1.13 lakh square foot income tax office building in Mumbai's Nariman Point, Sitharaman highlighted the need for officials to understand the challenges faced by ordinary people when accessing government services. She urged them to avoid making citizens "run from pillar to post" to complete tasks within their authority. Sitharaman pointed out that the Income Tax department’s own experience in securing approval for the Aaykar Sindhu project should serve as a reminder of the difficulties common citizens encounter. She noted that despite the department’s authority, officials had to navigate multiple layers of bureaucracy to obtain permissions for the building. "Can this experience incentivise you to understand the position of a common citizen when he approaches you? Don’t make them run from pillar to post where your authority is required; do the work for them," she said. She clarified that her remarks did not advocate breaking rules or offering special favors, but rather emphasized the need to reduce the effort required for citizens to access their rightful services. The minister also criticized the "laidback" approach of government departments, which she claimed had allowed illegal encroachments on government land. She cited the example of the Aaykar Sindhu site, which had belonged to the Income Tax department since 1973. Despite this, illegal occupations had persisted on the property over the years.#bsnl #income_tax_department #nirmala_sitharaman #nariman_point #aaykar_sindhu

357 Govt Offices Haven’t Paid NMC Rs145cr in Property Tax The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is facing significant challenges in recovering property tax dues from central and state government departments, which collectively owe over Rs145 crore. Despite efforts to enforce strict penalties and attachment actions against ordinary taxpayers, several government offices have defaulted on payments for years, exacerbating the civic body’s financial strain. As the NMC prepares for a 10% increase in property tax to boost revenue, the civic body’s recovery efforts for the current financial year have fallen short of targets. The revised revenue goal for the year is Rs325 crore, with Rs215 crore already collected and Rs110 crore still outstanding. Officials have intensified collection drives, but the delay in recovering dues from government departments remains a major obstacle. According to official data, 358 government properties in Nagpur owe a total of Rs145.14 crore in property tax. Of these, 270 belong to state government departments, with pending dues amounting to Rs131.19 crore, while 88 central government properties account for Rs13.94 crore in unpaid taxes. The NMC has issued demi-official (DO) letters to all concerned departments, urging them to settle the dues promptly. Among the major defaulters from the central government are BSNL properties, including office buildings and staff quarters in areas like Khalasi Line, Khamla, Nandanvan, and Sakkardara. These properties collectively owe several lakhs in unpaid taxes.#nagpur_municipal_corporation #bsnl #divisional_sports_complex #police_training_centre #government_college_of_fine_arts
