When she questioned her husband about the second marriage, he allegedly declared triple talaq on the spot, stating, “I am divorcing you and you can do whatever you want.” The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, criminalizes the practice of instant triple talaq, making it punishable with up to three years of imprisonment and a fine. The law was introduced to protect Muslim women from arbitrary divorce and ensure their rights are upheld.
