Veteran actor Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, passes away at 84 Mumbai – A sombre day for Indian cinema as the beloved actor Asrani has passed away at the age of 84. The film fraternity and millions of fans across the country are mourning the loss of a talent whose versatility and comic timing left an indelible mark on Hindi films. Born on January 1, 1941 in Jaipur into a Sindhi Hindu family, Asrani rose from modest beginnings to become one of Hindi cinema’s most adored character actors. Over more than five decades, he appeared in over 350 films, delivering memorable performances that spanned slapstick comedy, supporting roles and even leading parts. His portrayal of the warden in the 1975 blockbuster Sholay remains etched in cinematic memory—a perfect blend of humour and subtlety. According to reports, Asrani had been admitted to the hospital in Juhu, Mumbai due to a fluid accumulation in his lungs, and passed away around 3:30 pm on October 20, 2025. His last rites were held promptly at the Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai that same evening. In losing Asrani, we lose more than a witty punch-line or a classic character; we lose a link to an era of Hindi cinema where character actors held their own, where a “comedy scene” was crafted with care, and where audiences found joy in the nuance, not just the spectacle. His absence leaves a void—a laughter that won’t echo quite the same. Messages of grief have poured in from fellow actors, directors and fans. The industry will honour his memory with screenings, tributes and retrospectives in the coming weeks. For fans: revisit his work—be it in the golden era or his later roles. It’s the best way to say thank you. #Asrani #bollywood #RIP

Poonam Pandey once faked her own death to create awareness of Cervical cancer. It was bold move which did not go well with all. Some saw positive side of it which really created awareness about the disease and some saw it as absurd PR stunt. #PoonamPandey #cancer #CervicalCancer #awareness #Mumbai #bollywood #influencers
